Havplastfabrikken

Aka. Ocean Plastic Factory- An intiative creating awarenss around platic pollution in the ocean. Targeting some of the current issues while actively encouraging people to participate in making a positive impact. A practical and fun way to learn as well as a space to build a hopeful community facing the future of our oceans. This included workshops where we use machines that transforms recycled plastic into new products, as well as cleaning the beach right over the dunes of the factory.

This was truly a joy to work as I not only got to design the visual identity but also work at Havplastfabrikken. I got to personally engage with people and experience how to best communicate the information tailored to the wide range of different audiences that visited.

The “factory” right by Bore Beach- A space for workshops and beach cleanups.
An outdoor classroom located right by the source of what we wish to spark awareness off.

Visitors ranged from kids and youth to groups from big corporate companies. All bringing their aspect and perspective to the issue of plastic pollution in the ocean- Whilst actively contributing to a healthier local environment by doing beach cleans and showing awareness.

Educational signs to use outside the “factory”. Short introductions to Havplastfabrikken and the issues we are targeting.

The recycling process of preparing plastic for the machine: Sort- Wash- Cut- Mill- Melt & Shape

Havplastfabrikken “on tour”- I travelled around South West Norway and did 10 visits to primary schools, talking about plastic pollution while proposing a soulution by bringing a plastic melting machine. A practical workshop mixed learning about the power of plastic recycling and the importance of the ocean.

The logo is a blend of the icon for plastic recycling and the serrated wrack (a common seaweed here on Jæren and crucial to protect species on the ocean floor)- Perfectly telling our mission of protecting the ocean through education about the danger of plastic pollution and the wonder of plastic recycling.
