Other:Wise
Other:Wise is a passion project, combining my love for the ocean and with my love for design. It takes a critical approach to today’s human-centric mindset within design, and beyond. The core belief of the project is that if we know more about the world around us, we will care more for it and take action to protect it.
By capturing the beauty of the natural world I want to remind people how humans and nature are connected. In an anthropocentric world I want to inspire creative solutions that solve problems beyond humanity. Why should you care about the function of a plankton, or the life of a squid? Because if they thrive, we thrive. That’s what ‘other-wisely’ thinking is all about.

This curated exhibition is a result of research into the emerging field of more-than-human thinking, one which applies to design as well as beyond. Its a proposing a change of mindset- One which acts wisely towards all others

The exhibition focuses around a 2 meter long mobile with 12 chosen species from the local marine ecosystem- Relating their interconnectedness all the way back to the sun, you and me. The centerpiece relates back to the projects seaweed emblem.

The project’s visual language is soft and kind. In a loud commercial world, all fighting for attention, I wanted it to be an opposition. It draws attention by the use of detail and attention to moments of beauty, respecting the audience’s wish for learning and engaging.

The Ballot Coffee Recyling Bin: This  interactive element is an example of other-wisely thinking. I designed a bin speficially for recycling single use coffee cups. It acts as a ballot- suddenly you can have a voice through your trash! It investigates using the bin as a two-way communication platform.
